Basketball and Geography

How are both basketball and Geography linked?
Basketball is related to geography because it is apart of the world and exists on earth.
It is also related to geography because humans play the game and use it as a service for our entertainment. Also because the balls and basket and backboard were created using the earths resources to provide a sport and the location where basketball is played is also on the map of the world which is linked to Geography.

Basketball positions

This picture is from "wikipedia.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball_positions"
In basketball there are 5 different positions, these positions are the same all around the world and nobody has changed them anywhere in the world. The point guard dribbles the ball and sets up offensive plays, the shooting guard shoots the ball from far range,The forwards and centre are the tallest players on the team and shoot near the basket and get rebounds for their team. This is the same all around the world.

Basketballs

Basketballs

Basketballs are used to play basketball. They are spherical shape, the balls bounce because they are inflated. The balls size is normally 29.5 inches but different sizes are made because of age groups and genders. The balls are made of either rubber or leather. Most of the balls are made in Japan or China because of the cost being cheaper because of the low labour costs in sweat workshops!

The company Molten who make basketballs set their company up in Japan because of the low costs. They make big profits of the balls because they sell them at higher prices for basketball leagues all over the world.

The rules of basketball

Rules are different in every country but still contain similar rules.America have different rules which are more advanced as National Basketball Association in america have recreated their own rules to suit american players.Outside of America everyone esle uses Fiba Rules.

How rules were created for basketball?

In 1891 James Naismith created the rules that we use now, these rules are,
1) No running with the ball
2)No contact on player with the ball,no rough play.Which is now called a foul
3)whoever through ball out of play does not get the ball next
4) The side with the most 'goals' scored wins.
A goal was known as a basketball in 1891.
5)No dribbling only passing which fiba decided to change.

FIBA added 3 pointers,shot clocks,slam dunks,number of
fouls allowed per player, dribbling, allowed goal tending to be legal.
